My Transition Quality Phase of training for summer 2015

Summer 2015 Training Plan: Transition Quality

The Early Quality Phase of my summer 2015 training is over. I’m not say it is over well, but it is over. As I mentioned in my review of July, I had a breakdown in discipline towards the end of that month which resulted in missing quite a few workouts, including a 10-mile long run. And I only got in 2 of the 6 quality runs for this phase. But, it’s too late to go back and fix that so, onwards and upwards! Up next is the Transition Quality phase of the program. This is the phase that sucks the most! It has the most[…continue reading]

Summer 2015 Training Plan: Early Quality

The Foundation and Injury Prevention Phase of my summer 2015 training just kind of flew by! the 5 runs a week looked really intimidating, especially since a lot of them would be for #5amRunClub. But, I got through most of it! I’m pleasantly surprised by how strong I feel after this base re-building phase. Up next is the Early Quality phase of the program which marked by the introduction of interval work. This period also has a modest increase in mileage. When I went through this phase last summer, I started well but didn’t get in all of the quality workouts. I feel like[…continue reading]

Training Plan Jan/Feb 2015

To my surprise, the Chilly Half-Marathon is just around the corner! Less than 2 months away! So, I really needed to make a formal training plan for the next 2 months. Here it is!   This thing probably requires some explanation: The red numbers with the “RR half” rows are for my the Half-Marathon Clinic I’m leading at the Square One Running Room right now. The blue numbers in the second rows labelled “JD full” are for a Jack Daniels’ ‘inspired’ full-marathon training program. Surprisingly, the late weeks of a half-marathon clinic match rather well with the early weeks of[…continue reading]

November Training Plan

Although my results from the summer season weren’t great, I was still impressed by the Jack Daniels-style training program. I was so impressed that I purchased a custom training plan from Project Run S.M.A.R.T to follow until the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon in May.     My first priority in my schedule was to make sure I included the runs I have to do as clinic instructor for my upcoming half-marathon clinic (it’s not too late to register!). The half-marathon runs are shown in RED on the schedule. Then I added the distance distance the Marathon Training in BLUE. In many cases, the half-marathon[…continue reading]

Who said training was over? Part of me wishes it was… It’s a good thing I wrote most of this before the Army Run! Just because I finished my goal race doesn’t mean training is done! Remember, training for the next race starts at the finish line of the last one! And I still have big plans: CN Tower Stair Climb Niagara Falls Half-Marathon (Pacer) Rock ‘N’ Roll Las Vegas Half-Marathon On Sunday, October 19, I’m climbing the CN Tower. This event is pretty personal for me. As might know from reading my About Me page or this post, a[…continue reading]
