I think it’s time to start a new little wishlist for the fall. Since I’m tracking my spending starting September 1 as part of my new fall habits, making a shopping list seems prudent. Speaking of being prudent, one of my lovely readers named Prudence made a great comment on this post recommending that I use these things as rewards for achieving a goal. I think that’s a great idea! I tend to just buy on impulse, but treating them as rewards will make me control spending, and give me additional motivation!
Iron Man Under Armour Alter Ego Shirt: $60
I gushed about the Under Armour Alter Ego compression shirts way back in April. They were sold out of the Iron Man version at the time, but it’s back in stock now. I think of the Iron Man shirt as an evolution of the steampunk shirt that I enjoy so much. And, it will be awesome to wear during one of the Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge since all Marvel characters are now part of the Disney family. I might even get a light to wear in the centre of the chest!
My only reservation about this shirt is that it’s a compression shirt. I don’t exactly have the body or the confidence to run in a very tight shirt. I’ll probably order a size up so that it fits a bit looser.
Basket Of Video Games: $??
As I mentioned in this post, I’m going through a state of video game withdrawl. But it’s been really good for getting proper sleep and training. Perhaps I can treat myself to a little bit of gaming after the Hamilton Marathon. I’ll just have to be careful of managing which game(s) I get and how much time I spend playing.
I’ll probably get Pokémon X or Y as a treat to myself when the season is over. One good thing about this game is that it’s for the Nintendo 3DS which is a portable system. I can sit (or stand) anywhere and am not confined to a couch. There are probably benefits to pre-ordering it, but if I get it before the goal race(s) this season, I think it could sabatoge me.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and Disney Infinity are tempting, but they’ll make me stuck on a couch for a LONG time. And Disney Infinity seems to be a huge cash sink since it only comes with 3 of the dozens of available characters. One site I read estimated it would be over $460 to get all of the content. Ouch!
Little Caesars Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza: $10
It’s not exactly an expensive wishlist item, but it will make quite a reward. I’ve indulged in the temptation of the Little Caesar’s Deep! Deep! Dish Pizza a few times and it’s delicious. But each slice has about 350 calories and about 16g of fat. Eating all 8 slices would be 2800 calories! And I’ve decided I will eat an entire pizza myself in November when this season is over. It will be worth it!
I feel like acknowledging these desires will help me control them and help me stay focused on the goal races. And then I will indulge. But not too long… The Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge will creep up on my quickly.
What are your ‘rewards’ for your goal race?
Edit: September 2
I Believe in The Blerch Running Shirt: $25
In a post over a month ago, I gushed about an awesome comic that appeared on The Oatmeal. The concept of outrunning “The Blerch” really spoke to me. The author of The Oatmeal now has T-shirts, fridge magnets and bumper stickers. I think I’ll get myself the shirt as a taper gift.
26.2 Car Magnet: $4
I see so many cars with the 26.2 bumper sticker. But strangely, I don’t feel like I’ve earned it yet. If I do the Hamilton Marathon, that will be my 8th full marathon, and I’ll buy the sticker/magnet at the expo.
