As I mentioned in a previous post, one of my new fall initiative to track my food intake more carefully. One simple part of this tracking is that I have the same breakfast almost every day.
My typical breakfast consists of the following:
- Two slices whole wheat/grain toast
- Cream Cheese or margarine
- Microwave poached egg
- Glass of Skim Milk
I’ve had this same breakfast almost every day for much more than a year. It’s easy to prepare, and I think it’s pretty healthy. And I can prepare the whole breakfast in less than 5 minutes.
Using the LIVESTRONG My Plate page, I’ve been able to calculate all of the nutritional values of this
|Item||Calories||Fat (g)||Chol (mg)||Sodium (mg)||Carbs (g)||Fiber (g)||Protein (g)||Sugars (g)|
I’d say 600 calories for 27g or protein is pretty good. And it keeps me satisfied for most of the morning.
Upon examination, the sodium and cholesterol seem really high. The egg is devastating, taking 236 of the recommended 300g of daily cholesterol. The sodium is a lot too at 748 of the recommended 2400mg.
What do you have for a typical breakfast?
Any suggestions on what I could do to improve this meal?
