2012 is Behind Me!

Like one of those distance markers you run by in a race, 2012 is already behind me. It was an unbelievable year, which leaves me a little concerned of how I should top it.

It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Here’s a picture of the pin collection I proudly wear on my backpack that tells a pretty good story of my 2012 running history:

The top-left pin is from the Walt Disney World Marathon in ran right at the beginning of 2012. I actually ran the whole Goofy Challenge, and will do it again in a few days!

The top-middle pin is from the Virgin London Marathon. It was a failure but I did finish to add another notch to my marathon credentials.

The top-right pin is from the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This race went well and I missed setting a new PB by only 2 seconds!

The bottom-right pin is from Marathon Maniacs. I earned bronze level membership into this group when I did the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon a week after Chicago. Toronto didn’t have pins.

The last pin ont he bottom-left is from iRun Magazine. I picked it up at an expo at some point, and it’s a nice anchor for the set.

My 2012 Running kilometers by month from Dailymile. Nice obvious peaks right before my goal marathons.

According to Dailymile I ran 1521 km in 2012. A little shy of the 1000 miles I set for myself at the beginning of the year, but still quite awesome.

In addition to the 4 marathons, I also ran 2-30km races, 4 half-marathons, a 10-miler, 4-10k’s, an 8km and climbed the CN Tower again. I was a pacer for one half-marathon, 30k and marathon this year too and was very proud to do it!

I also led 3 different clinics that finished in 2012! Helping others reach their goals and make dreams come true like this was very awesome.

Most of all, I really enjoyed being part of the running community and culture and making new friends. I feel like this is a lifelong sport I can cling to.

Going into 2013 is a little bittersweet. I’m not sure how much higher I can go. I have a long list of New Year’s Resolutions, but I’m being realistic: I don’t expect to Qualify for the Boston Marathon or even win any races this year. I am leading another clinic which should help get my butt out the door.

Goodbye 2012! You were good to me. Let’s see what I stumble into in 2013!
