So, this post is slightly out of the usual, but it was so clever that I HAD to share it. I’ll be honest, I don’t watch the¬†Gotham TV series. I sometimes see glimpses of it on TV, but mostly I’ve learned about it through things people post on Tumblr. The show is essentially a crime drama, but it is set in the Batman comic book universe shortly after Bruce Wayne’s parent’s are murdered and long before he dons the cape and cowl. I saw this post on Tumblr which captures a scene from a recent episode and it spoke to[…continue reading]

I received a notification on Tuesday that a photo had been added of me to an alumni website.¬†The photo is a scan of a page from a 2006 university yearbook. It’s funny that I have absolutely no recollection of writing this incredibly nerdy blurb, and yet I can wholeheartedly believe that I wrote it. During the 2005-2006 academic year, I had a position in the engineering student government as “Sponsorship Director.” The job was to try to find free money for events and publications. But, as with most things I do, I went crazy with it and got much more[…continue reading]

Video Games Relapse

So, there haven’t been any updates to this blog lately. I have an explanation: I had a video game relapse recently. I mused in the summer that I didn’t play video games much anymore. But, as I posted in a Facebook post back in November, I felt like Dragon Age Inquisition would be the biggest threat to my training season. It has been so far. I have been very impressed with this latest iteration in the Dragon Age series. The story is compelling, the graphics are great, and the gameplay is fun. I got very immersed in the story and[…continue reading]

Blue Pill or Red Pill?

This came across my Facebook feed a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was interesting to think about, and the reaction comments were even more interesting!   The text reads: Take the “blue” pill and you will able to run injury free with your current abilities for the rest of your life Take the “red” pill and take 1.5 hours off your fastest marathon time, with an additional 5 mins each year afterwards, but you will stop running completely in 6 years. For those if you that don’t recognize it, the Red Pill/Blue Pill choice is a reference to[…continue reading]

The Rebound

I came into this interseason period with a burning feeling of failure and anger. Time and reassuring words from many dear running friends has help soothe my sore feelings after the Ottawa Army Run didn’t go as well as planned. And a little reality check has helped me refocus. I’ve had a lot off time to think about what happened at Ottawa. I don’t think I was physically ready to do the half in under 2 hours, but I could have been closer than what happened. In addition to the plethora of excuses I laid bare in that post, I[…continue reading]
