Here’s definitely something that would fit under the “non-running” category of my blog. But, I hope you all enjoy this review: I saw Cavalia’s “Odysseo” in Mississauga with a large group of seven on June 23, 2017. We got the VIP package which included a dinner buffet before the show, open bar (wine and beer), and dessert buffet during intermission, access to the stables after the show, and a souvenir (book). I think the package was quite worth it:   The pre-show buffet was quite good. It seemed like there was a bit of a Mediterranean taste to the buffet[…continue reading]

It’s been a very quiet few months on my blog. I’m hoping this post is the start of a turnaround and revival! The training season leading up to this race has been one of my worst. I declined to be an instructor leading to this clinic because I suspected I’d need time flexibility with everything else going on in my life. I really needed that flexibility because I was even busier than I expected! I missed a lot of runs because of work and other commitments. And I even missed some runs because I felt too tired, or the weather[…continue reading]

This race report may be over two months late, but better late than never! I mentioned in my October Review that I successfully paced the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half-Marathon. It was quite a relief that it went successfully because I would have felt bad letting down the people who were relying on me to pace. As has been discussed in several monthly updates this summer, I did not have a great training season: I had a number of injuries including my knee, back, and ankle. The ankle injury was particularly debilitating. I guess I was also not quite so motivated. I’m[…continue reading]

The weekend of April 30/May 1, I ran two events during the Mississauga Marathon weekend: The Novo Nordisk® “Hazel” 5km and Half Marathon. Doing both races earned me the distinction of calling myself a “Race Weekend Warrior.” I’ve been talking about this half-marathon as the target goal for a long time. I talked about my goals in this post. EXPO I didn’t expect much from the expo, but I was pleasantly surprised. From what I was told, there were very few giveaways at the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon Expo this year: In an effort to be eco-friendly they weren’t even[…continue reading]

I’m happy to report another Chilly Half-Marathon is in the books! This is my 6th year in a row doing this half-marathon and one of my most enjoyable!   In the leadup to this race I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what to wear. The forecast said it would be a high of +4C, but with a 15km/h wind, but the day started around -8. Should I have brought a jacket? Do I need a thermal layer? Is this shorts weather? Based on a run the week before I decided to go with 2 layers, and that[…continue reading]
